You're planning your lovely getaway to York, England but you're stuck on where to stay. Well, look no further as I will let you in on where to stay in York, England! The YHA York Hostel is perfect for solo backpackers, family trips, and romantic getaways and more ways than you'd expect!
First off, let's start off with where York, England even is.
I assume you know where London is (if you don't, I'll let you google right quick). Then just look all the way up until you start to wonder what cities are even in the north of England. It's York, York is in the north of England!
York is a beautiful walled city in northeast England that was founded by the ancient Romans. You can find beautiful historic structures such as the York Minster, walk through the Shambles, and trace your hands along the walls of the city. So let's plan where you should stay.
All the reasons you should stay at YHA York

I traveled by myself to York from London and it was a beautiful trip. Considering I was backpacking alone, I opted to stay in YHA York. YHA is a brand of youth hostels in tons of different cities and always have such high and favorable reviews.
Fun fact: this was the first hostel I ever stayed in!
I arrived on a rainy day and they were ever so welcoming and warm as they helped me into my room (a four bedroom female dorm), and showed me all around the place. They helped me locate all the amenities I needed, set me up with a hot drink and the wifi so I could get some stuff done while I waited out the rainstorm. I was fortunate to retrace my tour to get his photo (down below), of the garden where I drank my coffee while planning my day!
YHA York, a beautiful lovely Victorian mansion with stunning gardens is located about half a mile from the York Railway Station. This was convenient because it was just a quick Uber ride (sadly raining when I got there) to the hostel. From the ancient city center, it was only about a 7-8 minute ride, or if it's a beautiful day, a lovely 15-minute riverside walk.
Now as a mentioned, I was traveling alone so I opted for an all-female dorm which helped me save tons of money but also met some lovely ladies.
The best part is that this comes along with great amenities, such as a TV Lounge area, great dining selection with a restaurant inside (the food was so perfect for my first rainy day in). Brought your own leftovers? Make use of the self-catering kitchen!

Now if you're part of a larger family or you and your loved one want just a room to yourself, this place accommodates that as well! I was surprised to see various family groups come together for a weekend away in this ancient town, as well as a lovely couple on a romantic weekend away. YHA York accommodates for both families and smaller private parties, just like it would a solo backpacker!

I hope you get to visit York, and most of all enjoy your time at YHA York! There are tons of things to see and do in this magical ancient town and it's not a full England experience unless you make the stop. I highly recommend you take the beautiful riverside walk back to the hostel if you can because it was not only such a soothing experience but full of the English autumn charm I didn't know I needed?!

Hi Yasmin, I love your beautiful website and the pictures. I love the concept of hostels too. They’re great for female traveler but the only time I’ve stayed in hostels is with my teen troops. We cook together, share with other guests at the hostel and share stories. The hostels in San Francisco Bay Area also offer hikes led by rangers that make it extra fun.
Your blog brings lovely memories for me. I’d love to visit York and look up the hostel.
Thank you so much! I really hope you make it out there and get to experience YHA York!
