Letters From … Milan, Italy

Welcome to Milan, Italy!

Milan is overlooked by Venice and Rome, fair enough, but this chaotic beautiful city is not one to miss. Being the second largest city in Italy, but with the largest skyscrapers in Italy, you'll walk through this town in awe noticing not only the architecture being so authentic and beautiful, but also the forward fashion looks of the people. In a simple coffee shop, I spotted elderly men taking strolls in suits and newspapers in arm, while women running errands looked like they walked out of Vogue magazines. I only spent 24 hours in this city but it's an experience I would recommend anyone to have!

Funny story: So one of my first routines when arriving in a new city is to learn about transportation, check into my accommodation, and then grab a cup of coffee and people watch. Ok well, no one told me ordering a "coffee" in Milan means ordering an espresso. Fair enough, I took my "espresso and mini water" and of course I need hella sugar for this, to a table. I googled coffee terminology (I'm not ordering espresso again, you're so funny), AND THEN I READ YOU DRINK ESPRESSO AT THE BAR AND GO, YOU DON'T SIT DOWN. Who would have known? So I went back, ordered a croissant, sat back down, scrolled further down the article and read "... some people also order a croissant to go to compliment their espresso!". Let me just say, I have never been more proud to be a tourist who can probably be excused by all the locals watching me break these unknown rules haha.

People watching in Milan. Fun fact, I tried to order a mango smoothie at an "organic" shop right on the opposite side from this photo, and APPARENTLY THEY MAKE IT WITH BUTTERMILK. I can't stand language barriers.

Santa Maria della Passione. Late Renaissance styled church built in 1496. Located right next to my hotel, like practically connected to it.

Because the gelato in Milan is AMAZING. I thought it was overhyped but the gelato, the pizza, the pasta, all of it, live up to the hype.
