“TEDTalks: Technology, Entertainment, Design … Is that really what it stands what it stands for? I’ve never known …”
I’m such a huge fan of TEDTalks, that I memorized the opening line for the TEDTalk podcast (which fun fact, that’s where the acronym T E D comes from!).
TedTalks are amazing for inspirational and informative videos composed by many of the worlds most influential people. My life goal is to be so important, TEDTalk decides to ask me to have my own talk.
Until then, however, here’s ten TEDTalks that makes me 1000x more passionate about traveling!
Pico Iyer: Where is home? [14 mins]
“The number of people living in countries, not their own, now comes to 220 million.” Amazing talk by Pico Iyer who is ethnically from one place, raised in another, living in another, but in love with a completely different one. This TEDTalk is one I completely “get“. “Home is just not the place where you sleep, its the place that you stand.”
Pico Iyer: The art of stillness [16 mins]
Still like Pico? Listen to this reality check of a talk, discussing the art of staying still and going “nowhere” to improve your perspective in the midst of constant movement and travel.
Jenni Chang and Lisa Dazols: This is what LGBT life is like around the world [12 mins]
These two women tackle a story about being different via sexual orientation and travel the world to find others just like them. Their travel stories about LGBT around the world shows you there’s more to traveling like storytelling than just landmarks.
Chris Burkard: The joy of surfing in ice-cold water [10 mins]
I was so struck by the beautiful cinematography of this Arctic surf photographer! He swims in the coldest of waters to find true happiness! One of my favorite travel talks, definitely makes me want to talk a quick walk through Antarctica!
Aziz Abu Sarah: For more tolerance, we need more … tourism? [5 mins]
Co-founder of Mejdi Tours seeks to bring together friendship and knowledge by breaking down barriers between Palestinian Israeli conflicts! Each tour is led by a Palestinian and a Jew, and together they show differences and similarities together! Definitely on my to-do list!
Vincent Moon and Naná Vasconcelos: Hidden music rituals around the world [25 mins]
Super artistic and crazy cool project involving music around the world, the type of music that is deeply cultural and close to those locals of that country. Very thought-provoking! The talk is only about 15 mins long, and ends with a performance by Naná Vasconcelos worth watching!
Kitra Cahana: A glimpse of life on the road [5 mins]
A fascinating talk from a photojournalist who discusses the life and struggles of a vagabond, someone who wanders and travels without a home or a job. An amazing photographer I might add!
Ben Saunders: Why bother leaving the house? [11 mins]
The ultimate wanderlust push you need! The message is just to get OUT! This talk urges people to have the craving to experience the realness of things simply due to the fact it exists to be experienced!
Karen Bass: Unseen footage, untamed nature [11 mins]
If you love hiking, and amazing earth views, this TEDTalk will leave you breathless! From mountain tops to Milky Ways, this woman has recorded it all!
Christopher C. Deam: The Airstream, restyled [7 mins]
The ultimate dream: to have a travel home! This TEDTalk talks about how a man recreated an Airstream trailer, perfect for on the road! It’s been a few hours and now watching all of these, I’m super inspired to visit even more places not on my list, even more, places I don’t even know exist yet.
